7 Tips for a Healthy Dog
These are the top seven tips for a healthy and happy dog. Always keep an eye on your dog for any changes in behavior. A change in behavior is a common sign something changed with their health.
- Daily Exercise
Make sure your dog is getting daily exercise through a walk, playtime, or running with him. The amount of exercise your dog needs does depend on his breed, age, and daily activity level. Plan on your dog getting 60 minutes up to two hours of activity a day for a healthy life.
- Proper Nutrition
Feed your dog high-quality food that nourishes his body and mind while keeping his coat shiny. Research which dog food has the best ingredients and nutrition balance for your dog’s breed and age. Talk to your vet about which food is best for your dog.
- Maintain Healthy Weight
Just like humans, dogs need to watch their figure. Keep your dog lean with proper exercise and nutrition. Don’t overdo the treats and people food snacks. Try to weigh your dog once a month or so to keep tabs on his weight.
- Hydrate
Help your dog hydrate by providing fresh, clean water always. Keep his water bowl topped up with fresh water that’s free from debris, hair, and any other gunk that tends to collect in his water bowl. That gunk that ends up in his water bowl ends up in his stomach.
- Annual Checkup
Bring your pup in annually to visit the vet for an overall checkup and wellness visit. The vet can test your pup’s vitals, perform a full exam, and will catch anything early. You can always use this time to ask your vet any questions about your dog’s health.
- Oral Hygiene
Does your dog have bad breath? Make sure you take care of your dog’s oral hygiene and keep his mouth healthy. You can brush his teeth, use a dental rinse, or give him special dental treats to reduce plaque buildup. Talk to your vet about the best option.
- Social Stimulation
Your dog needs playtime and fun! Spending time running around and playing with his friends is great to help him exercise and get the social stimulation he needs. Playtime is great for a dog’s mental health and helps them burn energy. A tired dog is a happy dog!
